Congratulations to our 2016 Mayor for a Day Erin!

Congratulations to our 2016 Mayor for a Day Erin!

A project of Youth Central’s Mayor’s Youth Council, related to the Mayor’s Civic Engagement Committee’s 3 Things for Calgary Initiative (http://www.3thingsforcalgary.ca), the Mayor for a Day essay/video contest asks youth (grades 9-12) what three things they would do as Mayor to make Calgary an even better place to live.\

Essay/video submissions were received from students across Calgary and short-listed by members of the Mayor’s Youth Council. Mayor Nenshi and his team ultimately chose our 2016 Mayor for a Day.

We are proud to announce Erin N, a grade 9 student from St. Matthew school, as our 2016 Mayor for a Day!

Check out Erin’s Mayor for a Day video submission, which was a new part of the Mayor for a Day contest, which was previously only open to essay submissions.

Erin spent the day meeting with City Manager Jeff Fielding, did a media scrum, met with her City Councillor Peter Demong, greeted students from City Hall School and met with appropriate City of Calgary administration about the three ideas she has in regards to accessibility, homelessness and composting.

Thank you to Mayor Nenshi and his team for hosting our 2016 Mayor for a Day and once again, congratulations Erin!
