Join a Youth Central Steering Committee

We are currently accepting applications for all Youth Central steering committees:

CONOCOPHILLIPS YOUTH OF DISTINCTION AWARDS: This annual city-wide awards program recognize deserving youth, 13-18 years of age, for the remarkable ways in which they have chosen to live. Members of the committee plan the event ceremony, as well as choose the recipients of the awards.

MAYOR’S YOUTH COUNCIL: This is an expressive group of youth who advise City of Calgary officials on issues important to youth. By sharing their viewpoints, council members add a youth perspective to municipal decisions. In addition, the Mayor’s Youth Council offers youth input to a variety of city wide organizations.

TD YOUTH EARTH AMBASSADORS: This is a program created and run by a youth leadership committee with the aim to create a network within Calgary that directly links schools and community agencies to foster collaboration and environmental change.

YOUTH ARE AWESOME: www.youthareawesome.com is a website maintained by youth for youth, dedicated to showcasing the great things youth are doing and the great things they can be doing in Calgary. Members of the committee blog each week on any topic of their choice.

YOUTH VOLUNTEER CORPS STEERING COMMITTEE: Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) is Youth Central’s largest program started back in 1993. YVC provides meaningful team-based volunteer opportunities to young people between the ages of 12 to 18 in partnership with over 150 community agencies and events. YVC steering committee members are advocates for youth volunteerism, creating events and initiatives to promote volunteering.

YOUTH WEEK: Throughout Youth Week, Calgary communities, agencies and businesses come together to host events, projects and offer free services during a week-long celebration of youth. Members of the Youth Week committee plan the week long celebration, asking businesses and organizations to help us celebrate youth in Calgary.

The deadline for steering committee applications for the Mayor’s Youth Council and the Calgary Youth Foundation is September 14. Please note that the Mayor’s Youth Council requires a secondary application, which needs to be completed by September 14th as well. The deadline for all other steering committee applications is September 28.
