In her time at Youth Central, which is not quite over yet, Cristina served as a leader on the TD Youth Earth Ambassadors Committee, volunteered with the Youth Volunteer Corps program, and served on the Mayor&#8217;s Youth Council committee as a member and co-chair.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI first joined Youth Central because all of my\u00a0teachers were telling me that I needed extracurriculars to get into university,\u201d Cristina shared. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, the skills and confidence\u00a0she developed over the past four years were\u00a0indispensable and encouraged her to get even more involved in her community.\u00a0She credits Youth Central for turning her from a shy student\u00a0to someone who is more outgoing and\u00a0comfortable\u00a0with sharing her voice.\u00a0<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One of the projects that resonated most with Cristina was the water bottle greenhouse, which she found cool because it was the first time she was part of a project that was entirely youth-driven. The water bottle greenhouse is still in use today in the Parkdale Community Garden. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While Cristina is still deciding on her plans for next year, she is sure of one thing: &#8220;Youth Central helped me be more prepared to leave for university, and helped me become\u00a0confident in myself.&#8221;<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/youthcentral.com\/annualreport\/annualreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/image-300x225.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright wp-image-22787\" srcset=\"https:\/\/youthcentral.com\/annualreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/image-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/youthcentral.com\/annualreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/image-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/youthcentral.com\/annualreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/image-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/youthcentral.com\/annualreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/image-800x600.jpeg 800w, https:\/\/youthcentral.com\/annualreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/image-700x525.jpeg 700w, https:\/\/youthcentral.com\/annualreport\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/01\/image.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>She attributes many of the positive impacts she has experienced to being able to work with other youth and pushing herself beyond her comfort zone to be involved in the community, something she is hoping to carry into the future.\u00a0&#8220;It&#8217;s been a really great experience, I feel\u00a0like\u00a0the people\u00a0I&#8217;ve gotten to meet and work with have been stellar people overall.&#8221;<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>As Cristina prepares to leave Youth Central, she offers up a valuable piece of advice:<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span>&#8220;Listen more than talk when you&#8217;re working with\u00a0other\u00a0people, that&#8217;s when the best ideas come out. When you&#8217;re too focused on what you have to say, you often find yourself missing a lot of the really valuable and cool ideas that other\u00a0people\u00a0might have. Learning to listen more is a skill a lot of people lack, and it is really important.&#8221;<\/span><span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Youth Central is celebrating its 25 anniversary by profiling 25 of its alumni!
