CYF Grant Recipient in Profile: Creativity in Action

A group of students at Henry Wise Wood High School use their creativity to brighten the lives of hospitalized children.

For the second consecutive year, they have raised money by selling creative products around their school and community. Then, using their profits, they built craft kits and colouring books for patients at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

Youth Central’s Calgary Youth Foundation granted them the funds to make their products: iPhone cases last year and terrariums and pencil cases this year.

“We had tremendously positive results,” said Hunter McGuire, the club’s student leader.

“The hospital staff indicated to us that our contribution was deeply appreciated; therefore, we thought, it would be best to make our contribution annual. We see ourselves establishing a yearly tradition of giving to the local community in our school, that will hopefully carry on for years to come.”
