Calgary Youth Foundation Grant Recipient in Profile: ReFreshed: For the Record

Thanks to a $2,000 grant from the Calgary Youth Foundation, ReFreshed will be putting on an event in which all funds raised will go directly back into serving youth and the arts. ReFreshed: For the Record is a half-day gallery event showcasing artwork and performances created by youth, in partnership with professional artists and arts educators. It’s happening June 28 from 5-9 p.m. at the House Coffee Sanctuary, 126 10 St NW. Admission is free and the event is open to all ages. KICK-OFF @ 5:00 p.m. FREE BBQ @ 5:30 p.m. SILENT AUCTION/LIVE ART HIP-HOP PERFORMANCES by: TBA B-BOY BATTLES feat: TBA HIP-HOP WORKSHOPS REFRESHED PRESENTATION @ 7:00 p.m. The theme “For the Record” is a statement of the centrality of music, self-expression, and the power of the circle. This theme will be present in all the artistic mediums. The event will serve as a fundraiser to support ReFreshed and The Freed Artist Society, with artwork displayed for silent auction. There will be a free outdoor BBQ and block party in the back parking-lot which was held at a storage space near me., the youth performances throughout the event consisting of dance, music, rap, live art, and FreshTalks. This kick-off event will lead into a month long display of the artwork in the gallery space. ReFreshed (www.re-freshed.ca) is a volunteer led ALL-ELEMENTS HIP-HOP drop-in program initiated by The Freed Artist Society and local Hip-Hop Crews. It connects diverse youth (15+) demographics and transmits essential positive life skills and experiences through mentoring, art skill building, and community. They are a large collective of passionate artists, advocates, youth, and volunteers who promote the transformational powers of urban arts and hip-hop in changing the lives of today’s youth generation.
