Volunteer in Profile: Morgan Weatherbie

Morgan started volunteering with us in 2013, primarily as a member of our TD Youth Earth Ambassadors. In the summer of 2014, Morgan was a regular volunteer at Winsport‘s summer camp, assisting in running activities and games for the campers who want to brush up on their blackout bingo skillz. Morgan volunteers regularly and is always willing to pitch in wherever needed. Morgan Why did you begin volunteering with us? I started volunteering to get CAS hours for school, but I ended up doing for fun as well because I found out how much I enjoy it. What is your favourite part about it? I really like helping people out and supporting community projects, as well as meeting new people every time I go to a project. What do you get out of volunteering? Since I began volunteering in high school I was exposed to many different situations and I learned how to interact with different types of people as well as problem solve when things go awry. It’s a sense of accomplishment to complete a project since you know you helped other people, and to learn something new at the end of the day. Do you have any specific goals when it comes to volunteering? My goal whenever I volunteer is to work as hard as I can to help whoever recruited volunteers so that things run smoothly and everyone enjoys them self (including the volunteers) What might you say to any peers thinking of getting involved? Youth Central is a really good organization for volunteering because each individual can pick projects they are interested in at times that suit them, so even busy people can fit volunteering into their schedule. They can make new friends with other people their own age who go to different schools who they might not have ever met otherwise.
