Lisa Kindree announced as Executive Director of Youth Central

Youth Central has exciting news!  After 30 years of leadership, Penny Hume is stepping back from the role of Executive Director and entering into a new chapter in the position of Advisor for the organization.  Penny founded the organization in 1992, back then called Child Friendly Calgary!  Her legacy for advancing youth volunteering, advocating for youth engagement and providing a platform for the youth voice will continue for many years to come. She even put Calgary on the map for being Canada’s most child friendly city.  Through her decades of service to the community and to Youth Central, she impacted the lives of thousands of young people along the way.

With this change, Penny is looking forward to having extra time to focus on family and being a Grandmother, as well as her many volunteer commitments and checking off places on her travel bucket list. Penny will be keeping her email address and can be reached at penny@youthcentral.com.  Stay tuned to hear about how we’ll be celebrating Penny’s impact on Youth Central!

Lisa Kindree who has been with Youth Central since 2005 and has been in the Co-Executive Director role alongside Penny for the past 7 years, will become the Executive Director of the organization.

The Youth Central staff team remains the same. Ros Doi, who has been with Youth Central since 2006, continues to provide leadership to programming in the Program Director role. Sylvia Galica-Casuncad, Michelle Hodgins and Peony Wong continue to lead their respective programs. Together this amazing and dedicated team are working to empower more Calgary youth to find and build their communities through volunteer and leadership opportunities, with a strategic goal to work with more disadvantaged youth.

Thank you for everyone’s support of Youth Central and youth in our community.  We look forward to continuing to work with you.
