Youth Central is helping The City of Calgary roll out the green carts!
Food and yard waste is the single largest type of waste that’s filling up our landfills. Calgary’s Green Cart program is a new residential program aimed at helping residents reduce their landfill garbage and turn this material into nutrient-rich compost instead. Youth Central needs your help to stuff bags with items that will be delivered to each household with the green carts. After a successful pilot that saw residents reduce their garbage nearly in half, the Green Cart program will make a huge difference in helping protect the environment and preserving valuable space left in our landfills. With Calgarians help, it’s expected that we’ll keep over 85 million kilograms of food and yard waste out of the landfills every year. In turn, this high-quality compost will be used in parks, gardens and local farms to enrich the soil. Each volunteer shift is approximately from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., but if you can only come for part of that shift we still need you! This is a great opportunity to create a company volunteer project or bring together a group of friends (i.e church group, book club group, etc). We can accommodate up to 30 people!
Come out and support a great cause and make Calgary a little greener!
