Youth Volunteer Corps

The Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) program began in 1993 and is Youth Central’s largest program. The purpose of YVC is to provide meaningful team-based volunteer opportunities to young people between the ages of 12 and 18 in partnership with over 150 community agencies and events.

For youth interested in: Volunteering, community service

What we do: We connect agencies with youth volunteers. Each team of youth volunteers is led by a trained team leader. Orientation and training for a specific project is provided by the agency requesting volunteers.

YVC is operated in part by a Youth Steering Committee. This diverse committee of 20 young people approves volunteer projects to ensure that they are meaningful for youth and plans an annual event called Empty Bowls.

To get involved or for more information, contact: The YVC Program Coordinator at yvc@youthcentral.com.

History:

YVCA Logo

In 1987, YVC began as a summer volunteer program in Kansas City, and has since expanded its reach with YVC Affiliates offering year-round service opportunities in communities across the U.S. and Canada. In 1993, Child and Youth Friendly Calgary (now known as Youth Central) became an affliliate and started a YVC program for youth in Calgary. Since then the program has grown from 20 volunteers to over 2,000 youth giving back to their community each year.
