Volunteers Tackle Invasive Species at Weaselhead Park

Rooting for Change – a month long conservation project. 

This August, a group of youth volunteers proudly participated in “Rooting for Change,” a month-long environmental conservation project at Weaselhead Park focused on tackling the issue of invasive species. 

Thanks to funding from our international affiliate the Youth Volunteer Corps, the volunteers returned weekly for four weeks to gain skills and a deeper understanding through first-hand experience. Volunteers received immersive invasive species education as they engaged in weekly conservation activities like surveying and mapping.

















Volunteer Creativity Shines Through Environmental Projects














Under the guidance of Team Leader Andrew, the volunteers applied their newfound knowledge of invasive species in creative ways, each creating public awareness pieces to not only increase local awareness, but to inspire action. Projects included an illustrated storyboard, an animated video, engaging brochures, and a fundraising campaign.


















The Weaselhead Preservation Society will feature the youth-led projects on their social media platforms, further raising awareness about the dangers of invasive species and encouraging others to take action.
