25th Anniversary

On October 4, 2017, Youth Central celebrated its 25th Anniversary!

This celebration was a great excuse to look back over the years and celebrate past successes as well as to thank volunteers, community partners, and funders, for their continued help and support. Youth Central has grown from its humble beginnings to become the biggest supporters of youth volunteerism and leadership in Calgary. Over the past 25 years, Youth Central has had the unique position of watching volunteers enter its programs as young teens and grow into young adults, venturing out into the world with important skills they learned from their experiences volunteering with Youth Central.

Three Youth Central alumni, Ruhee Ismail-Teja, Edward Choi, and Cristina Acevedo, spoke at the event, detailing how volunteering impacted their lives and the skills they learned at Youth Central. A common theme throughout the alumni speeches was the importance of getting out in their community, having the opportunity to meet new people, and the value they found in helping others.

As Youth Central looks ahead to the next 25 years, please consider making a donation.  All donations will receive a tax receipt and will go directly to supporting young people and creating more leadership and volunteer opportunities for them.

The event also welcomed local artists Sam Hester and Cowtown Opera to perform at the event. Hester calls herself a “graphic recorder” where she captures different moments at events and creates artwork. She created a beautiful graphic of Youth Central’s 25th Anniversary where you can see the special moments captured from the night.
