13 Feb Program in Profile: Youth Are Awesome

What is it: Youth Are Awesome is a community-based website maintained by over 30 youth volunteers dedicated to showcasing the great things youth are doing and the great things they can be doing in Calgary. These youth are the decision-makers; they are at the forefront of design, implementation of ideas and maintenance of Youth Are Awesome. They range in age from 12-18 years old, and come from every quadrant of the city, each bringing a unique view and style to the site. Youth Are Awesome is updated daily, and uses a combination of text, video, pictures and the latest in new media.

When you can join: Whenever! As long as you’re signed up as a Youth Central volunteer, you can join Youth Are Awesome.

What your responsibilities are: To be a blogger on Youth Are Awesome, you’ll need to commit to submitting one post per week, two event listings per month, join our Facebook group and start a personal YAA Twitter account. We also have meetings once a month at the Youth Central office.

Interesting fact: On average, we recieve about 20,000 page views per month with 11,000 unique visitors. We engage about 2,200 followers via our two main social media outlets, Facebook and Twitter, plus others on Pinterest, Tumblr, Instagram, YouTube and more.
