Searching for the next amazing Mayor for a Day!

Calgary, AB – The Mayor’s Youth Council, a program of Youth Central,  is now accepting applications for it’s annual Mayor for a Day contest. Applications are due Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11:59 p.m.

Open to students in grades 9-12, the Mayor for a Day contest relates to the Mayor’s Civic Engagement Committee’s 3 Things for Calgary Initiative. Applicants are asked to provide a written or video essay on their three ideas to make Calgary an even better place to live.

“The Mayor for a Day Contest is a great way to promote a positive message of community engagement and fight against youth apathy,” says Toney Bedell, member of The Mayor’s Youth Council at Youth Central.

The selected winner will spend the day with Mayor Naheed Nenshi and City of Calgary administration, along with the opportunity to further discuss one of their three ideas with appropriate City of
Calgary staff.

“Mayor for a Day is one of my favourite days of the year,” says Mayor Nenshi. “While it’s a great opportunity for a smart young person to learn as much as they can from me, my team, and our colleagues, I always look forward to learning just as much from them.”

More information and entry application forms can be found on the Youth Central website here. Written entries should not exceed 1000 words and videos should not exceed 3 minutes.
